JOB TITLE: Regional Farm to Food Bank Program Assistant

REPORTS TO: Local Food Procurement Project Specialist Team

RANGE OF SERVICE:    Ends June 30, 2024

SALARY RANGE: $45,000 Annually + Travel Expenses

CONDITIONS:  Full-time Contracted Position

The Food Depot is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization looking for a committed, community-minded person who values our vision of a hunger-free New Mexico. This is a federally-funded position for a one-year period. This project will allow New Mexico farmers, growers and food producers to expand their market reach and supports food banks to get a reliable quantity of local fresh food for clients in need. The purpose of the project is to purchase fresh, New Mexico-grown produce, dairy, protein and other New Mexico produced foods and distribute purchases through New Mexico’s hunger-relief network to people struggling with hunger. Our focus is to purchase from disadvantaged producers, providing a more reliable market, and adding more variety for food bank clients.

Job Summary:

The Program Assistant will provide program coordination and administrative support functions for a small team that develops the Regional Farm to Food Bank program, in coordination with the New Mexico Association of Food Banks, New Mexico Department of Agriculture, and New Mexico Farmers’ Marketing Association.

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Provides support to Regional Farm to Food Banks program activities including but not limited to assisting in scheduling and preparation of meetings; meeting follow up; communication to applicants and producers
  • Assists with reviewing and processing producer intake applications and forms
  • Assists with reviewing and submitting invoice documentation
  • Supports the purchasing and distribution logistics of local food items through statewide network
  • Oversees compliance paperwork; gathering and tracking data for mandated reporting
  • Communicates with receiving and inventory coordinators at food banks on all aspects of product receiving, storage, and staging for distribution
  • Assists with soliciting, receiving, reviewing, and analyzing programmatic feedback
  • Supports monitoring and reporting on program related budgets
  • Maintains positive relationships with vendor applicants, producers, food banks, partner agencies, and members of the Regional Farm to Food Bank Task Force
  • Contributes to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests
  • Observes all local, state, and federal regulations in accordance with the program’s funding
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned by supervisors

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish speaking and writing
  • Must be computer literate, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite required
  • Minimum 2 years of general office experience, 2 years of college, or 1-3 years related experience
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide along with a basic understanding of weights and measures
  • Ability to read and comprehend product quotes, packing slips, and invoices
  • Commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in a complex environment
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people in a team approach to achieve successful results
  • Must be able to work independently of as well as collectively with other task force members
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of The Food Depot and the New Mexico Association of Food Banks

Other Desired Attributes

  • Working knowledge of New Mexico food systems, food production operations, food banking, or supply chain and distribution, a plus
  • nonprofit experience, preferred
  • geographically based in Southern New Mexico preferred

Employment Requirements

  • Clean Driving Record – New Mexico Driver’s License
  • Negative Pre-employment Drug Screening

Physical Environment

Remote. There is flexibility in position location, but must be a New Mexico resident. Some presence at The Food Depot office in Santa Fe may be required
