One of our more recent volunteers, Mark Padilla, is already making a huge impact on The Food Depot community. Mark first signed up for the Lunch Box Express in June and delivered lunches to children in need throughout the summer. Now—much to the delight of staff and fellow volunteers—Mark spends almost every day at The Food Depot. He processes bread donations, prepares pet food for the Food 4 Pets program and repackages diapers for the Diaper Depot. However, he is eagerly awaiting another summer of Lunch Box Express because that is his favorite volunteer activity “by miles.”
Staff members and volunteers alike love Mark for his work ethic, positive attitude and relentless desire to help others in-need. “I try to do positive things every day,” he said, adding his positivity is hereditary, passed down by his father.
A typical conversation with Mark begins like this:
“How are you, Mark?”
“Living the dream!”
Seeing people struggling during his long career in pharmacy and on his daily walks through town inspired Mark to take action. He has been supporting Youth Shelters’ Youth Emergency Shelter as a Volunteer Pharmacist for 25 years and is now logging many hours a week at The Food Depot. When he is not spreading his positivity as a volunteer, Mark loves watching movies and is an avid Lobo basketball fan.
Thank you, Mark, for “living the dream” at The Food Depot!
