Making Ends Meet

Every person in our community needs nutritious food to thrive. While people in Santa Fe are working hard to provide for themselves and their families, over 15,000 people in Santa Fe County are struggling with food insecurity. Across all nine counties served by The Food Depot, 12% of the population—over 33,000 people—can not afford the food they need to live an active, healthy life.

A Cost-of-Living Crisis

Join The Food Depot in a 90 minute class to discover more about poverty in Santa Fe, the reality of costs, and how to advocate for a more food-secure future.

During the session, participants will explore the life of a family of four living in the Santa Fe Metropolitan Area and seek to understand how a family with two adults working full-time minimum wage jobs still struggles to make ends meet.

What is food insecurity? Food insecurity is an official term from the USDA. A person is food insecure when they lack regular access to enough safe and nutritious food for an active and healthy life. This may be due to unavailability of food and/or lack of resources to obtain food.

The emergency food assistance provided by The Food Depot and its partners is a short-term solution for the challenges working families face. Making Ends Meet will prepare attendees to become advocates for long-term, systematic change in their communities.
